| This one is quite old. In fact, so old that I had forgotten writing it so very long ago. I'm grateful that I happened to stumble upon it, because it's one of the earliest examples of my work when I started writing in something resembling earnest. |

| What leaves you sad when you have all you need? You eat well; you sleep warm. Each day, one good deed. A family loves you with strength and devotion. Your life moves along with a bearable motion. But still your heart sobs when you give it a voice; you feel that dark pain, when you offer the choice. Cry in frustration as well as from hurt, confused by emotions dredged up from the dirt. Laughter hides tears. Smiles mask the pain. Dancing through fears. Ignoring the rain. Let no one see. Push it down deep. Sing in the daylight, but cry in your sleep. Lock it away in the deep place inside, that pit in your core where your true feelings hide. 'Cause pain has no place where there is no good reason, and the others have joy you can claim for the season. Dance, laugh and joke with a smile held before you. Be the right friend so they all will adore you. The problem's still there, a ghost of the night, but just suffer in the dark and pretend in the light. |
